September and October Meetings

Welcome to our first year of Brownies! Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the blog and share our adventures with you. We've had two meetings so far so I'll try to catch you up.

September Meeting
We had so much fun getting back together with our friends and meeting for the first time as Brownies! We had a lot of business to take care of including picking our Troop Crest and the Journey we'd like to go on. The girls chose It's Your Story, Tell it! So we will be learning a lot about stories and how we can use them to make the world a better place. We also decorated our new brownie bags, which will carry our books and uniform and hopefully keep us organized. It's a great place to pin all the swaps we received from our friends too.

October Meeting
We had an awesome Halloween party hosted by Lauren and her parents. We made cooky pumpkins and had super creepy snacks. Thank you guys for making our Halloween meeting such a blast! After all the Halloween fun we got down to business and started our Journey. We are going to move quickly though this journey, much faster than our last one. We talked about girls from around the world and how they are similar to us. We played some fun games as an example. Then we talked about stories and how different stories can gives us clues and ideas on how we can make the world a better place. We talked about some different examples and came up with "bigger" ideas on how we could take our clues and turn them into projects. This fulfilled our "Hear a Story" patch requirement and those were passed out at the meeting. If you did not end up with one I had extras. We did have some homework to do before our November meeting so make sure you take a look at the "Elfwork" flyer I passed out. Enjoy some pictures!

I kind of fell off the blogging bandwagon at the end of Daisies last year. I'm sorry! I'm hoping to keep up with Brownies this year but had a bunch of pictures I wanted to share from Daisies before I started :) Enjoy!

World Thinking Day!

Thank you to those that attended the World Thinking Day event. I'm sorry I wasn't able to stay the whole time. I know it seemed a bit unorganized but keep in mind the event was run by 5th graders and I commend them on taking it on. Hopefully the girls had a great time being together and earning their patch!

Animal Shelter Tour!

We had a great and informative time at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. It might have been a little sad but I think it made the girls realize how important it is that we take care of our animals and help take care of all animals which is a big part of our Journey. Also at the end of our Journey we will be doing a fundraiser/donation drive for the animal shelter so it was important to see what we would be raising money for. I hope there wasn't too many pleas for puppies and kitties when they got home! :D

The girls are too young to do any real volunteering at the shelter but they did allow them in the Kitty Rooms which was really neat. The rooms are full of cat houses and climbing trees and cats of course. They had fun playing with the cats and I'm sure the cats loved the attention. We also walked through the dog kennels. So many dogs!!! So sad!!!

January Meeting Wrap-Up

At our January Meeting the girls finished up and earned their first Leadership Award for our journey! To earn the bird bath award the girls had to be able to tell how they can take care of themselves and animals. They ceremoniously placed their Red Robins in the troop bird bath.


We began work on our next Leadership Award, the Red Robin Award where the girls will use their knowledge and creativity to teach others about Animals. The girls briefly started their own Porquoi (Why) Stories with a partner. I can't wait to see what they come up with! We will have lots of fun with this as it will all build to our final project at the end of the year. More details on that coming soon.

Night at the Museum!

We had a blast at the Musueum of Natural Science overnight!!!

Merry Christmas Daisies!

We had a wonderful time just celebrating the holiday together as a troop with a fun craft, snacks and a book exchange. Thank you Ms. Liz and Clare for hosting!
